This beer pours a reddish brown color. There is no head to it, and minimal carbonation. The nose is somewhat muted. It has a boozy smell to it. The taste of this beer is surprisingly mellow for the ABV of it. It has notes of chocolate. There's a slightly fruity feel to it. Some maltiness. There's some slight carbonation feel to it when drinking. Not bad. It doesn't drink like an 8.8 ABV beer, so if you're not careful, it might sneak up on you.

L: Pours brilliant brown with ruby highlights under a 1” tan foam column that descends to a thick film moderately fast.
S: Bread and kettle sugar aromas with a trace of cardamom to anise. The malt aromas are medium, the hop aromas are low. Clean fermentation character.
T: Big rich malty Maillard flavors high lighted by mild bread crust. Some alcohol and traces of malt based fruit but clean fermentation character. Mild malty sweetness. The malt flavors are high, the hop flavors and bitterness are low.
F: Clean and smooth with medium full to full body, medium low carbonation.
O: A big bold doppelbock
