750ML bottle picked up from the brewery after I had a glass (OK, two). Hope it’s as good as on tap. Split with my wife.
The pour is molten copper that looks a bit angelic when held up to the light. Carbonation is low; barely a hiss when popped open. When one hooks up the nose there’s no doubt about the rye barrels: spicy, raw boozy bourbon, & spelt grain. Lovely.
Batch 101: Rye Cubed brings my rye feels right to the fore. Nothing subtle here, just layer after layer of spicy, erectile-curing rye & rye whiskey. Booooozay, rough grain, moderate bitterness, sharp oak, which bleeds into a smooth mouthfeel reminiscent of oat (& I don’t think there are any in here). 8.6% really? I question that number & if it’s right, this one could fight well above its weight class. I slugged two in the taproom & am sure I could have done the same tonight.
I could have fit this review into a tweet: rye, rye whiskey, boozy, smooth. Excellent beer.
