hands down the better of the two beers i had time for in here, the other one being their saison. this is done with a whole bunch of quality cold brewed coffee, but its not just the java that makes it good. its a relatively sturdy stout on its own, nice body to it, a deep roasted grain profile without any charred bitterness at all, and creamed up and made a little rich by the lactose, not overdone, but a nice balancing element, especially with the depth of the coffee. there is an english element to this, maybe not the yeast but in the malt profile for sure, a bit of sweetness there too, and it seems to bring up the chocolate character in the darker grain, which is brilliant with all the coffee in here. definitely a little caffeine to this one as well. smooth body, perhaps a touch under carbonated, it looks and feels a bit flat, but there is great smoothness to it, and i dont mind the texture at all. warming coffee lingers on the finish, making it kind of cozy. a solid take on the style here.
