Thanks to the homie in Florida who hooked this up. 1st review of this beer on BA, over 2 years since I drank it in October 2018.
Poured a color that is darker than your average ipa, I'm guessing the rye content here was strong enough to give it a darker SRM more akin to an amber ale. 2/3" off white head. Great label. The aroma was pretty cool, so you get your normal citrus notes from the Citra hop, orange, tangerine, Florida groves, but there is also the Nelson hop which isn't super pungent but still present enough to give some of that danky stuff upside the sweet citrus. At this point, I'm pretty happy, Tom Petty, Nelson, rye, Citra, these things haven't been done in the same beer before.
Taste was quite nice. Beyond the mere gimmickry and ode to a legend, the rye wasn't anywhere as sticky, heavy or spicy as is often described in other reviews. Came across pretty crisp actually, which was not how it looked. Notes of grape must, weed and tangerine. I would buy this beer on the regular if given the opportunity, what a great mashup of tribute and taste.
