I had this beer on-tap in a schooner glass at the brewery’s taproom in Seattle.
Appearance: medium golden hue with a clear body and a nice visible effervescence. Head is a thin finger of frothy ivory foam with a good lace on the glass.
Smell: sweet malt with a little bit of a pear character; it’s actually quite balanced and smooth!
Taste: relatively sweet malt but not too sweet for the style. There’s a nice kinda soft chalky character to the light pear flavor. There’s a bit of alcohol heat but it is nicely restrained. Bitterness is well-balanced as well. I am amazingly impressed and honestly surprised how good this is from this tiny brewery.
Mouthfeel: medium rich body with a moderate carbonation and good creaminess.
Overall: I’m rarely optimistic when I dig into an American made tripel - usually they are either too sweet or have way too much alcohol heat or both. This one, though, handily exceeds all expectations.
