Clear, amber-tinted hue, voluminous creamy white head. Looking great.
In the nose: nicely spicy, dark fruity, floral, some malt in there, altogether beautiful.
In the mouth: More hops, more spice. Nice and fruity. Delicious malt, easy drinker, high quality. So many flavors. Spruce? Juniper? Various fruits and spices. So many nice hops. Nice meets nice plus nice. Good drinking IPA.
In Pryesian fashion, the beer is described with a trinity of words or phrases: Pine, Hoppy, Black Currant

i am not sure what makes this a winter ipa, but its a pretty good beer. i would think a winter ipa would have a heavier or darker body, or a more robust alcohol strength. something hearty for the cold weather, warming and sturdy, but that is not the case here, this seems almost less malty than their flagship ipa. it does have a sort of piney hop complexion though, not exactly spruce of christmas tree-esque, but bitter, vegetal, and northwestern, which i suppose is sort of festive if i let it be, but its not real unique, and it doesnt really take me to winter. that said, i like the beer, a simple golden malt base with a decent body on it, soft and cerealy, dry for the most part, and leading right into the intense hops. i actually found this to be pretty simple overall, drinkable for what it is, but not particularly special in any way. i am really glad these guys got a space opened up and that they have a bunch of stuff to choose from now that isnt just the ipa, but i had slightly higher hopes for this being a little more wintery and appropriate for the season. well made, but nothing special...
