Dark mahogany pour with a moderate head - more than usual for this type of beer - and light carbonation. The smell is vanilla, and the taste is vanilla and caramel. Better than I expected - well done, Pryes!

2023 vintage. Poured from pint can into snifter.
A: Pours an extremely dark black brown hue with a thin skim of dark mocha head that quickly settles.
S: Strong bourbon aroma with vanilla, oak, leather, molasses and a hint of dark chocolate.
T: Sweet bourbon, oak, molasses, vanilla, smooth dark chocolate, and roasted malt.
M: Heavy body. Smooth and slightly slick feel. Layers of dark sweetness. Lingers nicely on the palate.
D: A nice example of style with excellent bourbon expression.

Pryes Bourbon Barrel-aged 2019 Lost Moon Russian Imperial Stout.
14.2 % ABV. 46 IBU. Pryes Brewing, Minneapolis, MN.

Solidly stygian, dark as the deepest depth, under a slim brown ring of foam.

In the nose: Whiskey is king here. Big bourbon, plus vanilla, char, chocolate, espresso, anise, and more.

In the mouth: All that and then some. Richness upon richness, vastness multiplied. Deepness and deliciousness. Earthy, dirty, dusty and rusty. Big time bourbon reigns over this.

This was a delight, through and through. My notes ended above. I stopped thinking of words to describe it further and slunk into supreme satisfaction. I'll go out looking for another bottle to sock away for another day.
