Bought and consumed in Uvita, Costa Rica. This one really had me surprised, although at this point I shouldn't be. Huge coffee profile in the finish. Notes of vanilla and slight boozy flavor throughout. This could stand up with many a coffee stout in the States and beyond. A good find.

so hard to pick a favorite beer from our trip to costa rica, there was such diversity and quality in the craft beer scene there, but for my money, this is number one of all that we had. they call it an irish coffee stout, and its brewed in collaboration i believe with another local brewer called bora in costa rica. it has coffee and vanilla in it, and the label says something like it also has whiskey, and you can taste it for sure, but i dont think the beer is barrel aged, maybe a whiskey soaked wood chip or something, my spanish is poor, so the label description was not clear to me. what is clear though, is that this beer is incredible! eggshell black and really creamy headed on the pour, the beer looks dense and appetizing. aroma is strong vanilla, fresh beans i would think, bringing a sweet whiskey note to the fore as well, with the coffee all bitter and dark roasted in behind it, very complex, a little sweet, and really unique. the flavor is great, with all of these elements on display and in great balance. the coffee is behind the vanilla, with a nice chocolaty complexion to it and adding a needed bitter factor. the vanilla is fresh and forward, a little desserty, and strong with the whiskey in here. this was the only whiskey beer we had on our whole trip, so pretty special. love the strong vanilla with the dark malts and the coffee accent, and for all the added ingredients here, the flavor is on point and there is great balance. really smooth too, easy drinking for the style and super memorable overall! top notch stout.
