The dull black body has perhaps some threads of mahogany under a tan, quite tall, airy foam head.
Because this has a similar roast, this was a good transition after their stout, though obviously accented by smoke, which here is subtle, coming perhaps with a touch of sulfur.
It's not the huge smoke bomb of say, Schlenkerla, and it even has a little of what translates to an almost Baltic porter tang.

Wow, drank this beer over 2 years ago, figured there would be a review for it by now. I guess most people are smart enough to not pay their prices. Consumed the day before the Firestone Walker Fest in 2018. They do pretty involved beer names and wine bottle like "sophistication" and while some things are a turn off, that gets a little bump for the appearance.
Pours dark brown almost black like most porters do. Big 1" lighter brown head. Has a full on roasted malt nose that brings notes of light chocolate and coffee from the roasted malt. Not picking up anything wine barrel here.
Taste, protypical robust porter, lightly hopped, aggressively roasted malt. Its good. Still not finding much in the way of the wine barrel influence though, but I think it was only like 21 days or some shit I read on the label.
Between the high carbonation and whatnot, this has a good degree of levity and a large degree of roasted malt flavors.
So what we have here is a really well done porter. But have you seen their prices? Hard no. For instance, they have a 3 pack available right now: an ESB, an IPA and an Imperial IPA. Price: $82.50
