Chill hazed then clear classic amber, if not slightly darker, under a very tall and active yet condensing off-white foam head.
As much as their stock leans into saison, this starts off about as classic an American DIPA as it gets, aside from the echo popping flip-top it comes in. A hefty bite of pine is accented by grapefruit pith within an impossibly fluffy body...but wait, I spoke too soon.
Subsequent sips reveal hints of spicy phenols in the background, behind a touch of nutty multigrain. This begins to suggest a ghost of Belgian strong, but without taking over.
The finish is beautifully cleansing and dry, while the exhale brings up a touch of darkness that also hints at pungently overripe and even gassy mango.

Surprised. This is not your normal DIPA. Smooth, velvety are not works that I would normally associate with a good/great DIPA, but this one had it. Hints of pine and tangerine gives this a unique taste. I liked it so much that I bought a bottle to take home (along with another 8 bottles and beer club allocation).

Most complex DIPA I've ever had. Loads and loads of character from the barrel.

Served initially at 50 degrees F (from my beer fridge) in a angular, tapered Chardonnay glass. Second pour from same bomber re-chilled to 40 degrees (per brewer to be well filled and then consumed while slowly warmed in hand)
L: Amazing appearance. Dark orange, almost ruby in appearance-slightly cloudy when well chilled (clearly unfiltered). 1.5 fingers of straw colored foam, excellent, delicate lacing and retention.
S: Not as much depth in the nose as expected. Huge malt profile, particularly toffee malt, with subtle tropical fruit and a large resinous characteristic
T: Subtle tropical fruit up front some pineapple, lemon zest, maybe mango? Fading into heavy toffee malt in the mid palate with a lingering piney resinous finish and mild to moderate fading bitterness on the back palate that subtlety lingers and leaves one wanting more fruit from the next drink
F: Amazing, full bodied, velvety mouthfeel. Among the best from a DIPA I have experienced
O: I wish that I would have opened thus sooner. Bottled approximately 2 months ago and I feel like some of the citrus notes likely faded. If there was a half grade more citrus this would be spectacular, and it was when I had this previously on my first shipment (which was admittedly hopped differently so that could also be the difference)
