Yet again another beer from the taproom opening weekend and Meerts release. Pours looking like a standard pale ale, yellow and gold in color, not quite clarity, 1/3" white head. Aromatics here aren't your standard ipa/pale. You get funk. So while style guidelines might be offended, this is an ipa with a Meerts base from "funk factory" so it makes sense.
Taste is interesting, you get the super light base and then a light sprinkling of what I would describe as a floral kind of hop usage. Once again, you're getting those middle Wisconsin farmland and cowpen notes. A lot of times the Galaxy hop drops heavy pineapple, but I really didn't get that here. It was more airy. Still finishes dry at the end of the day, yet still quenching. A cool and interesting beer that will throw off a traditional ipa hop head.

I feel really bad for people that come into this taproom, ask for an IPA and get this without a warning, because the funk on this beer will even blow funk-o-philes away at first whiff.
Appearance is hazy pale gold-brass with a thick and persistent meringue head that leaves an uncannily permanent, impenetrable wall of lace.
Smell is Cheerios, green pepper, and earth. This is very, very powerfully pungent and funky and only gets more so as time goes on. I can't get into the nose here.
Taste is bitter root of romaine and blue cheese with hay, really super pungent funk and grass. The aftertaste kicks it up to rotting hay levels with earthy peanut butter. It's round and funky but also tart.
Feel is really pillowy and full of froth, with a semi-dry finish.

On draft at the brewery. Pours a bright yellow golden color with white head. Funk, some tartness, pine, and plenty of citrus on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes with a nice balance between citrus and pine with a funky lightly tart note. Funky IPA, this works.

On tap at Funk Factory. Served in a mini-tumbler glass. Pours with a light hazy golden-straw yellow body, one finger white head, good retention, fair bit of lacing. Smell is distinct floral and citrus hops, with a touch of spice on it, to go along with mild lemon, light acidity, touch of grain and a bit of oak from the base Meerts. This was a bit odd at first after having had the fruited ones, but on its own, this stands out as a dry-hopped wild. Flavour is a nice blend of the base Meerts with the Galaxy hops, which doesn't impart much, if any, bitterness to the finish. Light toasted grain, lemon, bit of oak, mild acetic acidity to go along with citrus and grapefruit hop aromatics. Mouthfeel is medium-lighter bodied, good carbonation, flavourful with a nice ease of drinking. A very nice dry hopped beer that'll take care of your thirst.
