Meerts is our take on the style of beer traditionally derived from the second runnings of Lambic. Our modern interpretation begins with Pilsner malt, raw wheat, and Saaz hops, which is brewed using a turbid mash and long boil, and fermented in French oak foeders with our wild yeast. This version was then refermented on blueberries for two months prior to bottle conditioning.

750ml bottle. No dating information found.
Dark purplish brown colored body. Brief lasting purplish white head. No lacing.
Aroma of funk and sour. The blueberry smell is there but not prominent.
Taste is vinous and sour. Funk is from more the horse blanket and leather than the barnyard. The blueberry is again rather subtle but does provide some berry sweetness for balance. The sour rebounds in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel is very dry. Good carbonation.
The blueberry does tone down the sourness to a degree that makes for a pleasant sipping sour beer.

Violet body with a pinkish head. Smell has grape and funk to go with the blueberry, with hints of oak and balsamic. Taste is more berry forward with black currant added, less funk but plenty of oak and a kiss of leather. Acidity is pleasant as is tartness, wild funk elevates. All together is it better than its parts, a top shelf meerts

Vibrantly opaque blood red, this has a frothy pink foam head settling to a thick, lighter hued collar.
I had just had a Barrel Culture Blueberry Pie Time before this, and by comparison, this had a softer, almost lactic acidity to it, as blueberry cream cheese meets buttery pie crust. It's tart and tingly but also roundly frothed, finishing semi-dry and quite a bit more expressive of blueberry than the aforementioned beer.

On draft at Funk Factory. Tumbler glass. Darker purple bodied, one finger light purple head, good retention, no lacing. Smell is big blueberry flesh, mildly tart blueberry skin, a bit of mineral and touch of leather. Mildly acetic, funky leather. Flavour-wise, this is probably the most complex Meerts variant I've had. There is just a really nice funky, fruit tartness to it that is unmistakably blueberry. Really a very nice tart blueberry sour beer.
