Inspiration can come from anywhere and what better than collaboration to spark new ideas, new ways of reinvention. Take Raglan Road for example. A great poem that inspired a great song. And so it goes... In turn a great song inspires a great Irish Whiskey from our friends at Jack Ryan, aged in our Brehon stout casks, which inspired us to create this Imperial Stout when they were done with them. From stout to whiskey and back again. That's our kind of poetry.

Whiskey cask aged imperial stout, collaboration with Jack Ryan Whiskey.

Pours a dark yet clear brown hue and looks opaque in the glass; thin yet lasting khaki colored head, semi-creamy texture. Well-rounded nose; dark, roasted grain sweetness; baker's chocolate; hint of dry white oak; wisp of whiskey. Beguiling flavors; milk chocolate and lightly charred roasted grain; very faint Irish whiskey taste; subtle overall bitterness. Heavy body with a chewy silkiness.

This fine barrel aged imperial stout comes across well-balanced and intriguingly complex. Refined and rich in character.

ABV: 8.8%; pouring temperature: 43.0 °F; bottle info: Best before: 02-2029 Batch No.: B640

The pour is jet black with a khaki head of foam that laces the pint glass. The taste is rich roasted malt, Irish whiskey barrel, toffee, dark chocolate, along with hints of coffee, & almond nut. Furthermore, the 8.8% abv is well hidden. Cheers! A-

I thought this was a smoked imperial porter.

Lighter weight body and great smoky flavor.

Picked this up at our local mega mart for beer/booze/wine. I’ll have to admit that I bought it strictly over packaging alone. I figured if they took the time to seal it with wax, a la Maker’s Mark, then there must be something decent inside, right? Turns out, yep. Not the best imperial stout out there but certainly not the worst. Loaded with the usual suspects of coffee, toffee, malt, and a hint of spicy licorice, this brew packs a punch that creeps up on you. If you like the style, you’ll be totally cool with this one.

16.9 ounce (500 ml) red wax capped bottle, best before 22.10.2024 stamped on the label. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head that stayed around for a long time. There's also a lot of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, whiskey, coffee, dark fruit and some dark chocolate. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some oak and dark bready flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick with a somewhat high amount of carbonation, a little high for my liking. Overall I thought this was a good overall brew, certainly worth trying if you get the chance!
