Served in a 4 ounce snifter at the brewery.
Bright golden color and excellent clarity. Light carbonation visible. Head is creamy and pale off-white. Lacing is plentiful. 4.5
Big mineral and grain aromas. Sweet malty presence like a helles, but also a potent hop aroma both grassy and floral. Minerally too. 4
Quite sweet but it's hard to characterize this flavor as just malty sweetness. Seems there's some corn-like sweetness within. The hops are true to the nose: floral, grassy and slightly resinous. There is something subtly solvent and sake like that is faint and at times indiscernible. 4
Bitterness is to be reckoned with here. This has a mean bite and a stiff bitterness, plus a dry, faint solvent element that definitely reminds me of sake. The body is full-feeling but I can sip this fairly easily. Quite interesting. 3.75
For uniqueness alone I quite like this. But this isnt a novelty beer, it's genuinely good. I find it to be sort of a hybrid of a helles, pilsner and sake (only in the slightest of ways) and the result is tasty. Good stuff.
