While formulating a perfectly sessionable beer, Ponderosa's brew staff works hard to create something simple yet refined. Smooth but constantly interesting and flavorful. Our Blood Orange Double Wit fits the bill. Brewed with Barley malt and wheat, just the right amount of coriander, lemon and blood orange peels, and our proprietary yeast strain brought back from our Brewmaster's studies in Europe, it is spot-on delicious.

Picked this up on the road last summer when I was out west and saved a can to review back here in New Jersey. Didn't expect a whole lot from this, and sadly enough, I didn't get much from it was it was one of the most unmemorable examples of the style that I've reviewed on here.
Amber in hue and topped off with enough foam, this had a ton of blood orange sediment floating in it as it reminded me of an Orbitz bottle from the 90's. Very little lacing remained as I worked my way through this most of the suds that stuck around were right above the top of the liquid. Blood orange, booze, and heft were in the nose as the taste was just as heavy-handed and rough around the edges. A Witbier should have more wheat, lighter notes, and fruit flavors that complement them but somehow, this came across as husky and sweaty - which would have been fine if this was a cologne.
As a brew, it needed more coriander, lemon peel, citrus, and wheat to liven and brighten it up. Yeah, this was born on 7/20 (with what appears to be BOWW written in front of that date) of last year but as it was, it didn't blow me over when I had it on the road nor did it back here at home. The yeast strain didn't cut it for me either as I'm wondering if a fresher could would have made any difference. Better Witbiers are readily available so only give it a go if you're in the Land of Enchantment and can't find anything else of the sort to quench your thirst...

Taster at the brewery. Medium golden, flat. Was expecting more citrus, but its in there, offering light accents to the normal wit notes. Faint citrusy aroma. Taste switches gears to the Belgian yeast, and finishes with bready notes. Fades out with a burst of citrus.

This was pretty much a standard whit beer. I was hoping for a bit extra on the blood orange/lemon peel aroma and flavor, but no. They said the lightly spiced it, well, they meant it. It's not a bad beer by any means. Perfectly good whit beer. It doesn't show it's ABV at all.
Overall good. Just went in wanting something more.

12oz can poured into Duvel tulip. Bought it from the grocery store as part of a $10 sixer mixer. BORN ON 11/15/18 printed on bottom of can. Wasn't planning on drinking anything todya but I'm drinking some beer since it contains ethanol, as a precaution since I have have eaten off of cookware contaminated with antifreeze. And ethanol is supposed to be one of the antidotes for antifreeze poisoning. My first medical beer.
Appearance - Opaque yell body with lots of fine floaters. Thin white head with low retention and fine lacing. 3.75
Smell - Musky. Very much a wit. Alcohol is very noticeable as well. Soy sauce. 3.5
Taste - Musky cardboard. Bitter. Very alcoholic. Only 7.2% but tastes significantly more because this beer can't hide it at all. It almost seems to highlight it, even. Mild aftertaste. 3.25
Mouthfeel - Thick but only lingers a few moments. 3.5
Overall - Not bad, but not as 'sessionable' as the label claims. I almost suspect this can might be a little off (soy sauce as possible indicator) but it's still enjoyable so maybe not. 3.5
