12oz can poured into Duvel tulip. Picked up from grocery store as part of a $10 sixer mixer. No date on can.
Appearance - Pours 2 finger light brown head with decent lacing and stick and decent retention. Very dark mahogany brown body that is almost opaque, and even a backlight barely hints through the edges. 4.75
Smell - A little sweeter smelling than usual for the style. Has that expected deep nutty caramel scent. No off notes. 4.75
Taste - Thinned coffee. Some tobacco. A little nutty sweetness. Some grassy bitterness in the finish. Not bad for the style, used to it having these offputting metallic notes. No major off characters this time. Not my favorite style, but not a bad example of the style. Leaves a bit of a stale coffee aftertaste. 4.25
Mouthfeel - A little thin and watery given the depth and robustness of the flavor profile. But I guess that's just the style. 4
Drinkability - Again I stress I'm not a fan of the style. But this a fairly decent example of the style. And mostly just because of the lack of flaws rather than the prescence of anything truly great. 4
