It's taken me a while to review anything from this Calgary brewery--not sure why. Time to fix that.

473ml can with that faux-Victorian artwork, how dandy! Pours an extremely turbid pineapple/lemon juice colour and a lively bright white head. Looks appetising.

Huge hits of metallic hoppy bitterness up front, followed by plenty of citrus and some soapy sweetness. Lemon and grapefruit really predominate, and it's nigh impossible to make out any of the malt behind it. Perhaps as it warms just a hint of the bready/biscuity aromas float out. It's not bad, just not all that nuanced. Certainly fruity and mouth-watering though.

Bursting lemon and orange right up front on the tongue, and thankfully the malt does make an appearance at the back, revealing a creamy fresh bread note. The finish is not as dry as I expected, those hop oils seeming to back off after swallowing. Definitely makes this go down easily. Soapy grapefruit, some mango and green apple--all the usual suspects are here, and it's pretty tasty alright. I am getting a very strong taste of cloves in the finish, as I burp. Yeah, not sure I've experienced such a strong clove flavour in any beer before. I always hear "cloves" mentioned in the descriptions for witbiers, but never really experienced it. Interesting.

Pretty smooth beer. The aroma is pretty standard, imo. Tasty stuff, but would like to see more of the wheat character show up. I think some Alberta breweries are making similar beers with more complexity, but hey, this is damn tasty and refreshing.

Beautiful looking beer, cloudy, almost orange, with superb retention of its super fluffy head. Smell is nice, citrusy, wheaty, bready, but my stumbling point here (and with most of what Dandy makes) is their yeast, which I find a bit funky--there's a metallic twang here, and the sense of something just a bit off. Still, a solid brew, especially from such a young company.

650ml bottle, another new brew from this nascent Calgary brewing concern - nice to have them hand delivering cases of their wares to we northerners, I gotta say.

This beer pours a hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with a rising tower of puffy, broadly foamy, and faintly creamy off-white head, which leaves a wide array of sudsy snow rime lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of bready, doughy pale malt, a touch of toasted breakfast biscuit, mild, indistinct citrus notes, and further grassy, leafy, and floral hops. The taste is toasted wheat malt, a pale graininess, some soft apple, pear, and neutral citrus fruitiness, subtle white pepper spice, and more earthy, leafy, and floral hop bitterness.

The bubbles are rather prevalent in their thoroughly laid-back frothiness, the body medium-light in weight, and generally smooth, the hops only rapping on the door, the gentlemen that they are. It finishes off-dry, just, as the bitterness of the lingering hops starts to upset the elan and zeitgeist of the party that never stops.

An agreeable and easy to drink summer ale, which is well-hopped with an American-bred varietal - one that somehow bestows an even heftier English pall over it all (I mean that as a compliment, I think). Were that we could all spend the summer days kicking back with more than a few of these, as the titular gadabouts may very well have.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 18/8/15

A slight haze in a golden yellow body, with three fingers of well sustained foam slowly falls to a thin film leaving a few random patches

S lots of dry cereal, some lemon peel, iced tea powder, a little soapy with some hard to place spice and floral notes

T more citrus rind, just a hint of spruce, toasted bread, not all that far from the nose

M light bodied but a little foamy, explodes when it hits your mouth, a little grit and lingering rind

O decent and drinkable on this warm evening, I'm in the mood for hops and this one ends up balanced

solid session ale but I'd really love the hops getting jacked up a bit, that being said its worth a try and maybe I'm asking for more then the style allows

Appearance - Pours a hazy apricot with four fingers if foamy white head.

Smell - grainy and wheat malts, yeast aromas, citrus and spicy hops, orange and lemon.

Taste - Mainly dominated by the grainy and wheat malts. The citrus and spicy hops come through next followed the orange and lemon. The yeast aromas are there but not quite as dominant as in the aroma.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A crisp finish with the malts lingering.

Overall - A refreshing EPA for those who like their malts first and their hops second. A brew that is not quite sessionable as it is a little on the heavy side. Nonetheless, a satisfying brew from the folks at Dandy.
