This strong scotch-style ale has high maltiness, full body, low hop bitterness, flavor & aroma, low-medium fruity esters, very deep copper color, slight chill haze, clean alcohol flavor balancing the rich and dominant sweet caramel & dark roasted maltiness flavor and aroma with a very low level of peaty/smoky character from the addition of small amounts of peated malt.

Had this on 2012-10-09 in Normal, IL at the brew pub.

A - Dark murky brown with 1/2-finger tan head and good lacing.

S - Butterscotch, mild peat, roasted malt. Pleasant but not real strong.

T - Medium-dark roasted grain, mild peat, touch of smoke, hint of licorice. Alcohol very subdued. Decent bitterness from roast and hops. Good balance. Tasty, semi-lingering aftertaste of these flavors.

M - Medium body and light carbonation. Not very thick. Dries nicely.

O - A really nice scotch ale. Well-crafted. Won Silver @ 2011 World Beer Cup.

A: Pours a dark ruby brown color. A two finger tan head forms with good retention. Light sticky lace is left behind as the foam recedes.
S: Very sweet up front. Slightly woody. Lots of sweet raisins, almost cloying in that matter.
T: Pretty much cloying here. Very sweet with raisins and light wood.
M/D: A medium body with good carbonation. Smooth and creamy. Lots of alcohol, but a nice sipper.

Just too sweet. I did not get any peated malt that they advertised. Not bad, but not what I am looking for in the style.

Pours a cloudy, dark brown color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and poor lacing. Smells of yeast, sweet malt, slight roasted malt, dark citrus, and slight wheat. Fits the style of a Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy. Mouth feel is smooth and creamy with a slight tartness. There is also an average carbonation level. Tastes of slight tart malt, sweet malt, roasted malt, dark citrus, floral hops, and a hint of smoke. Overall, complex, well blended, good aroma, and good body.

Picked up a growler of this and shared it the same day. Had about 3 pints.

Into a pint glass it pours a nice auburn with ruby glints in the light. The lasting khaki foam has a soft meringue sheen to it on the surface. Arcs of lace are left all around the glass rim.

Earthy, peaty aroma, sweet with some soft fruity banana esters. Flavor is very butterscotchy, some peaty smoke, with a smooth mellow feel. Flavor is mildy sweet with notes of maple and brown sugar. The diacetyl blends in, but i'm not sure if it's intentional. The mellowness is almost like a cask ale and suits the style well. It was easy to have a few pints, and was a good introductory crowd pleaser.
