Growler thanks to match1112 in the Ugly Sweater BIF. Drank New Year's Eve 2012, reviewed from notes.
Pours a deep, rusty brown amber. Clear at the edges but mostly opaque. Big eruption of off-white head; could be to two fingers, could be to the top of the glass, depending on the pour. Really nice lacing, plenty of visible carbonation.
Smell has brown sugar sweetness. Ambiguous, sugary dark aromas. How's that for vague? Some mild Belgian yeast touches. Almost woody, almost fruity, almost grainy, but not really anything in any pronounced way. My description is vague because the beer itself is.
Taste has a really obvious tobacco flavor, moreso than any other beer I've had. It drifts into mild bitterness. Hovering around the edges is a lightly sweet woody dark malt flavor that doesn't quite provide enough base flavor.
Mouthfeel is fine. Medium-bodied, enough carbonation. Not particularly notable.
A pretty solid Belgian-style ale, but just doesn't have that much depth of flavor. Not bad, not great.

A: Pours a dark brown color. A bubbly two finger tan head rises, but recedes in a minute. Light lace.
S: Cinnamon and spice up front and center. Toasted malts, and light dark fruits. Though a very strange woody, maple syrup aroma come out of nowhere in the finish which detracts for me.
T: Follows the nose with lots of cinnamon and spice, sweetness, and dark fruits. The spices pack a punch. That odd maple syrup flavor again as well.
M/D: A medium to full body. Good carbonation, and smooth. Easy enough to drink, but not something I am coming back to again and again.
Normally I enjoy enjoy a maple syrup like character in a beer like this. Though for what ever reason, this just did not mix well for me. This is also listed as a Belgian Dark Ale, but seems much more like an English Winter Warmer to me.
