this beer is absolutely banging! one of the best in this series, and close to the best i have had from these guys overall. it has amazing depth of flavor, apparently it spent something like two years in oak, and the wood and funk on it are incredible, well beyond what we are used to in clean quick front end soured gose types. this might be a little more tame on the coriander and salt than many, but i think a lot of that has been absorbed and transformed by the oak, and there is so much bretty funk to this that the acidity of the lacto seems only complimentary, not in charge. fuller bodied too, oak tannins everywhere, tons of wheat, slight drying salt thing, wet wood, musty basement, preserved lemons, crazy wild yeasts, its just delicious. its also super sour, despite everything else going on, this really does pack quite the pucker. not sure how old this bottle is, but i am certain it is drinking at its peak right now. if you have one, you are lucky, and you should open it right now. this was an unexpected gem from these guys, who are still all over the map in terms of quality, but this is some of their very best work. one of the best gose types i have encountered in a long time!

Had this on 2012-07-11 in Bolingbrook, IL from a growler from the brew pub in Normal, IL.
A - Hazy straw-gold with a short head and almost no lace.
S - Lovely sour yeast and fruit; somewhat like a hard cider.
T - Fruity peach skin and citrus, nicely sour, light bready malt, light but pleasant oak. Fresh tasting. Dries nicely. Really delicious.
M - Light body and medium carbonation. A bit sparkly like champagne. Just right for the style.
O - Really enjoyable. Delicious and fresh tasting. Subtle flavors. Well balanced. Compares very favorably with the best Russian River sours, of which I'm quite familiar. It was a real treat to have this fine brew and I will certainly seek more of the St. Dekkera Reserve sours. BTW, my wife liked it every bit as much as I did.
