355ml bottle served at a cold cellar temperature and poured into a pint glass. Thanks to Kevin and Claudia for the gift.
Appearance - an aggressive pour yielded a hazy rusty bronze coloured beer with a finger of white head. Retention isn't terribly impressive but a nice pattern of lacing is left behind. Mild carbonation rises to the top.
Smell - plenty of hops, with a sweet note followed by lemon zest and lime. Lacking the big malt aroma that is usually subtle but ever present in DIPAs.
Taste - not big flavor, thin with lemon and lime. Not much malt either. While a serviceable APA, this is light on hops even for an IPA, never mind a DIPA. Heavily hopped water?
Mouthfeel - thin, light bodied, easy to drink and carbonation is pretty respectable.
Overall - while not an inherently bad beer, style points need to be dropped since this labels itself as a DIPA, when between the lower alcohol content and thinner body and lack of malt presence it clearly is not. Probably would not buy again.
