Forgotten Boardwalk Brewing "103 Years Later: Belgian IPA"
on tap at the brewery on 15 September 2019
Notes: Clear amber body beneath a short head of white foam. Good head retention and better lacing while it lasts. Aroma of citrusy and woodsy hops over a basic, lightly caramel accented malt base with some minor Belgian yeast phenols that are mainly spicy - it's almost cedar-ish in a way. The flavor follows but with a greater emphasis on the grainy, bready, and sweetish malt and some peach-like fruitiness. The yeasty spiciness and delicate plastic-like phenols work alongside the median citrusy and woody/piney hops to balance the bready sweetness of the malt nicely. There's also a touch of tea-like hops to it. It's a very well rounded and polished flavor that has a lot of character to it. The bitterness is medium and it finishes dry and spicy. Overall I'm fairly impressed with this - Forgotten Boardwalk has come a long way even within the past year, and this could be a GABF contender.
