Had this on tap on the 4th of July at the brewery, so it must be out of retirement. Has a dark robust look with a decent head. Strong malt aroma, which is highlighted upon the first sip. The high abv of 8.2% is well masked. A very good version of a Scotch Ale.

Poured into a thistle, the appearance was a dark copper color with a finger’s worth of eggshell white foamy head. Mild stringy lace. The aroma had some notes of clean caramel/toffee malts, some dark fruit, damp wood, sly smoke, earthiness, some grassiness, light herbal qualities and a little bit of cherry. The flavor leaned towards the sweet side with a rolling smokiness coming in underneath. Malty to smoky sort of aftertaste, but super light. Finish was moderately sweet with a touch of smoke. The palate was about medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine, fairly low but expected. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, really nice scotch ale that I would have again.

Aroma is caramel malts and smoky/slight scotch notes. The flavor is caramel/toffee, malts, very slightly spicy in the middle and a smoky/sweet/sour finish.

Almost no head is a glaring defect seen right away. Malts are sweet, dark fruit-plummy, pruney, smoky. Heavy dose of
caramel-straight forward, no layer of malts or very much personality here. A little dark chocolate and smoke in the finish. Thin bodied. Very light carbonation. Fusel alcohols in the finish, but not boozy by any means. Not a great example of the style. Drank half and tossed the rest. Decent beer, but body and carbonation really hold this beer back. Bought this on a whim...not best, not the worst I've had.

Poured 22oz bottle into snifter. A deep amber color with a thick tan head that faded slowly to nice lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, some malt and bit of caramel sweetness. Seems to be just a hint of smoke hidden in the background. Taste follows the aroma with a mixture of the dark fruit and caramel sweetness. Very light carbonation and a medium feel with a smooth finish. This was decent, but pricey at $8 for a wee heavy.
