We took Ohio-grown and malted pale malt from our friends at West Branch Malts and blasted it full of PNW Citra hops for a tropical citrus driven APA with a touch of malt character.

Pale yellow with a persistently fuzzy white blanket leaving some wisps of lace on the glass, this has a nice cracker presence with slightly dank green onion and delicate pine before some biscuit merges in with a vanilla-orange spread via a nice, round body, soft froth and a semi-dry finish. Easy drinking.

On tap (listed as SMaSH APA, Citra and West Branch pale malt)
There’s a nice lace-producing head atop a murky yellow body.
Nose has a fruity/floral citrus hop note with just a little honey wheat bread action.
Taste also has a honey-like malty opening before a classic Citra orange rind, then grapefruit with its rind eventually control the ending without dominating it.
Nice medium light feel, fairly smooth and welcoming.
This was a nice beer that leaned towards a regular IPA, but showcased a malty opening and a fruity bitter ending. Much enjoyed.
