What happens when the tank runs dry? You improvise a 50/50 blend of Barleywine and Imperial Oatmeal Stout aged 12 months in a California cabernet barrel, for the best of both worlds.

Aptly named, this has an unexpectedly forward, fruity tanginess to it that is a red wine barrel character I've not really experienced in a beer before, but especially a dark beer. It's kind of nutty with accents of brownie, caramel and cocoa, but is also slick, lightly carbonated, and finishes semi-dry with a warming port-like finish. Unusual--not bad, but not what I'd hoped for either.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
