An American wheat ale filtered to a crystal brilliance.
Montana was nicknamed the Treasure State for its numerous deposits of gold, silver, and precious sapphire gemstones. Folks who have lived near the plains, rivers, and mountains of Montana have come to appreciate the “Treasure State” as a state of mind. It’s the way you feel when you’re surrounded by the vast open spaces and towering land masses. It’s that humbling sense of gratitude and wonder that one finds in the presence of things older and greater than one’s self. We brew this filtered wheat ale in celebration of the place we call Montana. It’s natural splendor surpasses any trove of gold or gems. Made in Montana. Treasured Everywhere.

i think a this is great, and that meadowlark remains one of the better unsung breweries of montana. nobody ever seems to talk about what they do, but all the beers are so well refined. some more ambitious than others in my experience of course, but i have never been let down. this is a solid filtered hefe type, clean for the summer, maybe fermented a little warm with an overly estery yeast profile that jumps out a little too much in such a simple and light base beer, but its well made, the intangibles are there, and i had no problem ripping through a number of these with my long lost friends and family. this is a niche style that i dont think we see enough of, and it being clear sort of lightens the whole thing up, lets the water profile and the yeast be tasted a little more, and drops out some of the earthy rawness of the wheat that we usually experience in a more traditional hefeweizen. white wine and pear and anise esters from the yeast, clean dry wheaty base, minerals and light metallics, subtle herbal qualities too, white tea, elderflower, and honeysuckle, definitely a spring and summer beer. very well carbonated and alive feeling, and very professionally done overall, these guys are doing some great stuff, and im glad we picked this one up!

Slightly hazy straw colored beer. Head fades quickly. Aroma is mild wheat and cracker. These light malts are prominent in the taste, along with a slight a faint hint of spice and yeast. Grainy aftertaste. Highly carbonated. Sharp, crisp, and drinkable.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a golden color with a one finger head of fizzy white foam. The head fades rather fast to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a cereal and grainy smell mixed with some notes of caramel and a little bit of hay.
Taste – The taste begins as one would expect from the nose with a grainy, bready, and cereal taste that has a bit of caramel sweetness. As the taste advances the grain remains constant with the sweeter taste getting slightly strong. All the while, there is a very light hop flavor that is mostly grassy in nature, and some yeasty tastes that develop, in the end, leaving one with a rather grainy and bready taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – For a brew of only 4.5 % abv, this is actually on the slightly thicker side with a carbonation level that is average. While for the very bready taste the feel is actually fairly fitting, a little thinner of a body may have made this one a more refreshing and easy drinker.
Overall – An alright brew for the most part but a little thicker in feel then I would desire for a crisp easy drinker.

Poured from 12oz can into glass. No dating information found on can.
Clear, straw colored body. A few bubbles of head upon pouring but these quickly disappear, leaving only a very thin ring fed by bubbles. No lacing.
Aroma of light wheat malts with slight sweetness.
Taste is light wheat malts, with marshmallow type sweetness. A touch of banana and spice, but not nearly as prominent as in a Hefeweizen.
Medium to fat mouth feel. Good carbonation.
Very refreshing wheat ale that is subtle with aroma and taste, but sweet and sharp.
