Tropic Blunder

i have loved most of the beers i have had from these guys before, and i had never had anything too hoppy from them, so i was excited to try this when i saw it, but it let me down, sweet and malty and seemingly incompletely fermented, a weird and unpolished beer that definitely didnt live up to my expectations for it. its got a light caramel color to it, some haziness, lots of body and not much head, sort of unexciting in the pint glass. it smells sugary to me, jammy fruitiness too, if its all from the hops its cool, but i get like strawberry and apple or something to it, some citrus as well, and just a little more toasted grain character than this needs. the flavor is the same but its sugary throughout, which wouldnt necessarily bother me if it was dried out at the finish or even had some hop bitterness to balance it, but it really doesnt, and as a result i found even a single pint a little hard to finish. its a shame because the hop profile seems to be pretty unique if there is no fruit added to this, and its kind of lost to a fuller grain bill and all this residual sugar. i am wanting to like this, but it is in need of some serious cleaning up, just not what i expected from these guys, who have been so impressively dialed in most of their other stuff. not sure what happened here, but its easily my least favorite of their beers i have had to date...
