For all you hop thrill seekers, the journey down Route 4 is one for the books. Route 4 summons good memories of a journey home, and bitter memories of a perilous work day. With a bouquet of grapefruit, pine and peach on the nose, and enough caramel malt to balance out the hop bitterness, this IPA is restrained, balanced and easy-drinking.

Very hoppy with a citrusy note. Not very complex but still a solid IPA.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Good solid dark amber body color, with a mix of light orange real nice clear body. Good solid faint streams of rising carbonation, meeting to a real soapy but large three finger head. Very nice shiny amber IPA.

Real good hop nose. Very pungent sensing aromatics of earth, dank and sweet florals. Mix of soft caramel sweetness as well for balance, some herbal bitterness mixed in as well. Real nice hop nose, even a little complex too. Very enjoyable.

Palate sticks to some nice sensibility. Soft bodied malt with a nice feeling palate. Hop angle gets a little more tea like, with sweet herbal tones on first sip. Soft caramel like notes, with a touch of soft sugar sweetness for simple balance. Hints a little pekoe like orange flavor as well.

Real nice simple IPA, and a good looker too.

I got a late start on NBS (Week 774) & I did not finish up my DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure as planned. 8=( Further, I promised that NBS (Week 775) & now, Week 776, would be dedicated to the wonderful beers sent to me by @jkblr who seems to have a real handle on my drinking habits. CANsparency is key in these things! As a result, I am going to CANcentrate over the next few days on eradicating everything that would have CANbined to form the finale of the DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure. Sit down, strap in & hang on. It's gonna be a wild ride! That last one kind of put me off of Maryland, at least for the moment, so it's time to visit some of the other victims, I mean, honorees. I'd like to give a shout-out to my local, in-person beer trader, @tone77 who dropped this CAN off for me a while back.

From the CAN: "Building a Better Beer (tm)"; "The use of the image of the Maryland State flag is not an endorsement of this product by the state of Maryland"; "Pairs with: Hard Cheeses, Grilled Meat, Carrot Cake"; "Color: Golden Amber"; "Aroma: Pine, Grapefruit, Tropical Fruits, Peach"; "Perfect for: Your first beer after a long day"; "76 IBU".

I beCAN by Crack!ing open the vent for the CANmencement of a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It seemingly erupted, foaming up to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with CANnoyingly good retention. What the heck? I wanted to drink! Color was a slightly-hazy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose was definitely pine & peach with a modiCAN of caramel malts. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but on the approach. The taste was interesting in that it CANtinued the peach/pine trend while adding grapefruit, but at the same time, its bitterness was not really evident. Mmm. I do not mind bitterness, but this made for a juicy, easy-drinking AIPA. Finish remained with an odd mélange of flavors, prevalently peach, but also pine, grapefruit & caramel. It was semi-dry, which was unusual for the style, but who's CANplaining? Not me! YMMV.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours reddish orange with a fluffy white head. Smells of citrus and floral hops. Tastes of citrus hops with some slight floral notes. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.
