On tap at Big Ditch Brewing in Buffalo, NY.
This one pours a dark-ish brown color, with a small head, and a good bit of lacing.
This smells like baked brown bread, toffee, dark fruit, and a light spice.
This is just a super sturdy and straightforward take on a classic style. It's not quite up to the level of the German classics, but it's pretty close, honestly. There's a wonderful dark bready character to it, with some dried dark fruit and just a hint of hop spice.
This is creamy, and light on the palate, with a good drinkability. It somewhat lacks the big richness of the best examples of the style, but it's very drinkable all the same.
This was a must order when I saw it on the menu, as barely any American breweries take a stab at the style. It was (mostly) a resounding success.
