33 cl bottle poured lightly chilled into a taster’s snifter, in Toulouse, France.
A fair finger of foam stays atop deep black brew.
The nose is strong of dark roast malts, leather, dark chocolate, pipe tobacco.
Taste moves in with the darkness of the Stout, then pulls in the generous hops, reinforced with Oloroso sherry barreling (a rich, oxidized style of wine that is made in Andalucia, south of Spain). There are nutty, caramelized characteristics, plus a nice taste of wood barrel. Lingering finish that coats the tongue and makes the mouth water. Firm twitch of wine-y alcohol.
Mouth is high medium to full, medium carbonation.
Overall, sherry barrel aging compliments the good base brew, making for a good drinking experience.
