Tasty and nicely rounded Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout
Presentation: 33 cl capped bottle. Illustration of a Nordic-like god-shaman over a glowing orb and a pile of skulls. General Laugar branding with general description of the brew. Shows main ingredients, lot EE4948, BB Date 12/2030, and 11% Alc. by Vol. Served in a snifter.
A - Black pour with mocha edges, rich creamy head, medium retention, fair surface memory and touches of lacing.
S - Sweet roasted nose, not too complex, fundamental stout notes of dark malts, insinuation of the barrel…
T - Roasted malts, nice notes of chocolate, hint of powdered cocoa, some boozy wooden sweetness, dash of toffee in the background and a light bitterness over the sweet Bourbon note.
M - Good full body, nice creamy flow with soft carbonation. Booziness is nicely integrated without taking center stage, and holding the weight of the brew rather nicely.
O - Very pleasant take on a barrel-aged imperial stout, covers a nice spectrum and hits the right notes.
Notes: Another nice imperial stout from Laugar and a quality take on barrel-aging. Glad to see them going in this (and other) directions
