August 2008: Forced draught at the GBBF 2008. Cloudy golden brown colour, big head. Cloves, banana and citrus in both aroma and flavour, some more acidity than in many other hefeweizens.

f/b. hazy brown. foam drops immediately. Sour smell. Almost like berliner weisse. Sour apples. Taste is sweet and sour like apple juice from sweet apples. Low carbonation. Thin body. Overall feels like in between hefeweizen and kellerbier. Lacks complexity, good session beer.

Golden bronze color, with a longstanding foam, white, even if there are some big bubbles.
Weizen smell, but not too sweet. Interesting, for sure. Spicy notes, no banana, and it it pleasant, with wheat notes, and yeast. Maybe a light fruitinees (peach).
Light but pleasant in the taste too, again with yeast and wheat, again a alight fruitiness (peach?), and green apple peel.

Poured from a 0.5l bottle into a 0.5l branded Paulaner weizen glass.

Appearance: Dark brown, almost reddish color. Thick, foamy head that dissipates quickly leaving nice lacing. Overall, a very appealing-looking beer.

Smell: Floral and citrus scents with a little bit of maltiness (barely detectable). Smells pretty damn good. Definite scents of lemon.

Taste: Light and refreshing with citrus tones in the background. A small bit of bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and crisp with only a little bit of detectable carbonation. Very refreshing; would be nice to sip outside on a warm day.

Overall: A solid dunkelweizen. One of the best I've had and a good example of the style.

500ml bottle bought from Cornelius, Edinburgh.... described on the bottle as a German Style Dark Wheat Ale....

Poured a hazy rusty colour. Slightly off white head poured as expected - big, thick and foamy. A steady stream of carbonation bubbles maintains a decent thick coating throughout... some decent clingy lacing...

Aroma - Quite a lot of yeasty and wheaty notes, light toasted bread, light caramel malts, some hints of cider, plenty of banana but quite light traces of clove, biscuity, sea salt, some floral notes...

Taste - Good strong wheatiness mixed with toasted bread, toffee apples, yeasty, light brown sugar sweetness, definite banana, light cola notes, some pears, light nutmeg and pepper spiciness...

Feel - Very smooth and creamy... medium bodied... exceptionally quaffable - i could happily knock this back all evening...

Overall - An excellent and slightly unusual Dunkel... a nice find... recommended...
