Double Ron Hawaii is our 3rd collaboration with Ron Jeffries of Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales our of Dexter, Michigan. This imperial version of Ron Hawaii IPA is brewed with pilsner malt, pale malt, flaked barley and flaked rye. It was heavily hopped with Experimental Hop 438, also known as “Ron Mexico,” and New Zealand Waimea. After initial fermentation in stainless, it was transferred into oak puncheons, where it continued to go through a secondary Brett fermentation for five months. It was then moved back into stainless tanks and dry-hopped with a healthy dose of HBC 438.

Yeah I was the goober at the brewery putting tasting notes in my phone. Transcribed to here.
Body is golden honey and opaque with minimal head. Small soapy ring lines the edges, and the lacing it leaves behind is wonderful and more prominent than I expected.
Tart sweet lemony brett on the nose. Soft malts form the backdrop. Bright and inviting.
Carry through from above of the lemon and funk that builds from a round lead-in to a tart peak before turning from tart to bitter hops. My impression is primarily green melons and citrus.
Bright carbonation and drinks like something with half the 9.6% it boasts. The sweetness that the hops present do build up a little bit necessitating a slower pace, and making me grateful for the half pour.
Per usual for these guys this is phenomenal overall.
