16oz can
Pours a little over two fingers of fluffy, creamy white head into my Pilsner glass. Retention is quite nice, losing less than a finger after a few minutes. Initial lacing looks wonderful. Body is golden yellow, high clarity, with a ton of nucleating bubbles coming up. Looks very nice so far.
Nose is very aromatic; hoppy indeed. Noble, grassy, and a little tangy up front, with some nice tropical undertones, and even a little bit floral. A moderate, but noticeable malty sweetness, at least for a Pilsner; I don’t mind it, it balances the full hop profile here. Certainly comes across more like an IPA, but hey it’s 2021. I like this quite a bit, it’s complex, deep, with enough noble notes to remind you it’s a Pilsner.
Flavor definitely accentuates the floral notes, as well as some of that malt body, it’s anchored by a sturdy bitterness. A little grassy, but that is certainly subdued compared to the nose. Not getting much tropical fruit at first, some subtle notes come out with time. The lack of any major fruit changes the narrative of the beer, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing; this is much crisper, and cleaner than I was expecting. It’s quite nice, flavorful, pretty clean, while packing a bitter punch. Yum.
Carbonation is hanging in there just below medium, which is good considering how nucleating this glass is. Body is medium, thicker than an average lager. Bitterness is elevated. A little sweet, definitely not dry, but well balanced. Great mouthfeel.
Despite the high bitterness, the drinkability is quite nice.
Appearance turned out lovely. Lacing gave thick sheets down the glass, and the head lasted as a small sliver all the way down.
Overall a flavorful, balanced, and boldly bitter lager.
