Brewed with heavy additions of specialty crystal and roasted malts, hopped with East Kent Golding and fermented with an expressive English ale strain, creating rich and intense notes of chocolate and dark fruit. We then conditioned this batch on single origin vanilla beans from Papua New Guinea for a big vanilla backbone.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin, dark khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, vanilla and coffee with a little smokiness. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light char, coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla; coffee tartness and astringency in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A dark, rich imperial stout that has an unexpected and authentic coffee flavor throughout into the finish, although apparently there is no actual coffee used in the brew or conditioning. It has the usual fine chocolate and smoky malt I expect from this brewery, and the vanilla is fairly mellow, which is, in my opinion, a good idea in stouts; a little goes a long way for me. I didn't find the malt depth as great compared to the last bottling of this stout, but it is a fully flavored and a worthy stout. Amazing coffee flavors in this malt base.
