Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Cigar City Brewing teku glass.
A: Pours a clear gold with some chill haze. Forms a finger's worth of white head with good retention for a hoppy beer, and lots of small bubble visible carbonation initially (though this tapers quickly).
S: Biscuity malts with some brassy sweet undertones. Bits of piney and grassy and vegetal hops. Nothing exciting on the nose for sure.
T: Biscuit malts with grassy, vegetal and resinous hops. A bit husky, and a touch of metallic underpinnings. Remains only very lightly bitter in the hang.
M: Medium to heavy-bodied for an APA. Good carbonation sensation though, and alcohol presence seems average for style.
O: If I hadn't read the label, I think this would more seem like an ESB. There isn't a ton of hop flavor for a modern APA, and it's a bit heavy-handed in the malt bill for an APA. There's nothing offensive here, other than the very mild metallic flavor. But as it stands, it's nothing to look for - there are simply too many other better options sitting on shelves. I'd be willing to give a revamped recipe a second shot sometime though.
