From the half liter bottle, it pours a clear caramel color with a modest off-white head that diminishes to a ring and leaves some lacing. The nose gets some caramel and roasted malts. The mouth gets the same - caramel malt and roasted malt flavor.

2024 update: yep!

Nice deep copper/brown, with pleasant, roasty bitter taste. This came in a mixed Bavarian case from Edeka markt. Normally, I wouldn’t go for a double bock in the summer, but it tastes pretty good.

500ml bottle, mindestens haltbar bis: 04.11.11.

It pours with one of the most beautiful heads I have seen on on a beer, it is a tannish color with almost a hint of amber to it The beer is also a beautiful orange/amber/gold. The large carbonation bubbles at the bottom of the glass bring it down to a 4.5.

The smell is super fruity. It definitely has the smell of a port or cognac, alcoholic with dark fruit notes and some nuttiness. It also has a nice caramel malt scent with some leathery notes and a hint of cocoa. Complex for its relatively mild abv for the style.

The flavor is, as expected, fruity and alcoholic. Still with notes of cognac. It has a great deal of sugary burnt caramel, dark fruits, toasted nuts, and some dark bread notes. It is a bit rough on the edges, and a bit sweet, but overall a pretty tasty doppelbock. The mouthfeel is decently thick with an interesting carbonation.

Overall a solid doppelbock, ,ind of unexpected.
