I visited the "OKB" brewpub recently with a bunch of friends around lunchtime, not long after it first opened for the day, so it was not that crowded. However, we were immediately struck by a certain austere, clinical feel to the place. Everything was shiny. It wasn't bad, just not too warm. It's a big place, with high ceilings. Perhaps it would've been better to sit at the bar, which looked slightly more atmospheric, with a set of nice taps. We were seated off to the side, outside the main room, which resembled a sun-room.

They had their standard line on tap, as well as two rotating or seasonal offerings. The beer was pretty good, not excellent, but the presentation was good: a unique glass for each brew served. There were also helpful explanations of each brew, highlighting especially their rotating ones. The placemat was an explanation of the brewing process, which I thought was classy. Of course, it was all in Japanese.

Service was excellent, of course. There is almost no such thing as bad service in Japan. The waiter was helpful and informative.

As for their food, it was excellent, although a little pricey--although in Japan you can't worry about that. Just pay the man. Beer was also a little more than I was comfortable paying. The sausage variety plate was yummy, and I have to offer a particular shoutout to the pumpkin ice cream, which was excellent. It has a pretty big menu, with both Japanese and Western options, both small and large dishes.

I would say the overall quality of the experience was good. I can imagine the place getting quite crowded in ideal beerhall style, with loud echos off the high ceilings.

Located in Kitami, in between Asahikawa and Abashiri, north of Daisetsuzan National Park, in Hokkaido, Japan, it's a little bit out of the way. And in the winter, it sees HEAVY snowfall. If you're up that way, I recommend a trip, definitely, but it's quite difficult to find (it's hard to find almost anything in Japan). We had a navigational system in our rental car, which helped.
