A cloudy dark-crimson pour, with decent head that gives way to a fine, DIPA-style lacing. Citrusy and piney smell, with emphasis on pine, with a hint of dark cherries. The taste is bitter as hell, like a super-hopped beer, and one can detect a taste of burnt rye that might also contribute to the bitterness. There's a bit of malty sweetness present, as well, but fades away quite quickly. Super bitter and slightly salty finish.

Pours a cloudy brown where light cannot seem to pass, but the color is far from black. Decent head which leaves an initial blanket of lace, spots thereafter.
Smells of deeply toasted crystal malts and the mustiness of my great-grandmother's attic. There's a bit of alcohol to the nose as well.
Comes across like an overhopped double bock beer. Starts off sweet with a strong burnt element (but no coffee, surprisingly). I think this may be from burnt raw barley, not burnt malt as this beer does not taste like a Guinness in anyway. The burnt flavor lasts throughout the taste well into the long aftertaste. The swallow draws out a neutral hop bitter bite. Lighter in carbonation and neutral in the body, the mouthfeel belies the strong flavors.
