Dark brown, light brown foam, scarce but ok.
Smell: malts, wood, whisky, leather, light smokiness - peated.
Inthe taste the whisky note dominates again, but under that, there are still maltiness, herbal notes, peat.
Alcohol (13.4%!) hidden.
Dry fruits, almond, sweet fruitness, quince, plum. Amaretto.
Whisky, overall.
Demanding beer, but again, not too much.
Good.

L- Resembles a Long-Island iced tea. Quite dark brown, hazey and minor patch of foam on top.
S- Liquor barrels, straight away. Brandy/cognac? I get wine-like notes. Not much else gets past that.
T- Rich, has the 'sticky' aspect of a British Xmas pudding. Liquor is prominent.
F- Thick, verging on slightly syrupy, though the palate partially adjusts after a few sips.
O- I regret to say this is OTT for me. It's over-rich to the point of being somewhat sweet. The ABV% is also over-dominant on the palate at least partially via a presumably loud barrel-aged note. I think too much detail is masked behind the over-dominant liquor barrel aspect. Interesting to try but not one I'd drink again.
330ml bottle BB: 'See bottle' but I don't see one. £7.99 - ouch. Bought from TremblingMadness/York as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
ps. This^ is blind-tasting, I hadn't read the bottle or other reviews. Now I see the casks were actually whisky and not brandy/cognac.

Pours a cloudy, reddish mahogany coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smells of rich caramel malt, toffee, honey and red berries, with hints of vanilla and oak. Taste is an excellent balance of rich caramel, slightly grainy malt, toffee, wildflower honey, dark fruit and red berries, with notes of fig, plum, cranberry and redcurrant, as well as lighter notes of pear, vanilla and spices, with accents of licorice, clove and black pepper, and just a hint of earthy, tannic, burnt oak. Finishes bittersweet, with a light bitterness and some toffee, red berries and oak lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and low/medium carbonation.
A very rich, complex and well-balanced Scotch Ale that is dominated by sweeter notes of toffee, honey and dark/red fruits, but features some spicy, woody, lightly smoked accents as well that balance this out perfectly, while the ABV is very well hidden, without a hint of sharp booze to this except for a nice, warming presence in the aftertaste. Overall, this makes for a very rich and complex sipper with a subtle balance that is perfect for the dark, cold season and probably best enjoyed by a roaring fireplace with a good cigar. Another exceptional barrel-aged brew from Pohjala that is an absolute joy to drink.
