Look: black with a thin dark brown head

Smell: coconut, rye barrel, coffee, chocolate, a hint of dark fruit

Taste: follows the nose, nice even balance between the various flavors. No flavor overpowers the others

Feel: smooth and heavy

Excellent barrel aged stout that I would definitely pick up again if the price is right.

Dark ebony with a hint of hazelnut foam. A mouth-watering scent is pronounced, chocolate, coffee, shards, vanilla, cherries in alcohol, oak, bourbon. On the palate rich roasts and burnings, malt, coffee, wood contrast with the sweetness of chocolate, coconut and dehydrated dark fruit. In the finish there is ash and tobacco and a return of toasted coconut and robust bitterness. The passage in bourbon barrels makes every sip constantly warm. There is a good balance between sweet, roasted and abv. Medium-full body, not too round and velvety but slightly angular, medium and fine carbonation.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of coconut with some vanilla and bourbon notes with some sweet black chocolate notes. Taste is also a mix of coconut notes with some vanilla and bourbon notes with some sweet black chocolate notes. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation. Solid coconut forward stout.

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a tiny, fizzy head. Smells of dark, roasted malt and coffee, with lighter, but equally dark and bitter chocolate and just a hint of coconut, vanilla and oak. Taste is an excellent balance of quite roasted malt and coffee, with some distinct dark and bitter chocolate as well as lighter dark fruit, with notes of raisin and fig, and hints of coconut, vanilla, licorice and earthy spice and oak. Finishes bittersweet, with a medium bitterness and some dark, roasted malt, coffee and chocolate, as well as a hint of coconut and vanilla lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and light/medium carbonation.

Although the eponymous coconut is actually rather subtle here, that's not necessarily a bad thing in my personal opinion, with this being a lot more focussed on the dark, bitter and roasted malt, coffee and chocolate, with a certain Rye Bourbon Whiskey warmth adding some spice and vanilla sweetness here, balancing this out nicely and softening the edges a little, making it feel a bit more mellow despite the ABV, which is hardly noticeable. Overall, this definitely feels more like a coffee than a coconut stout, which is fine by me, with quite a roasted, bitter character that is complemented very well by the Rye Bourbon barrels, with a great overall balance and complexity
