Cave man makes fire. Henry Ford makes the Model T. Tesla (NOT Edison) makes electricity. Johannes Gutenberg makes the printing press. Edward Jenner makes the first vaccine. And Pohjala makes Jätku Leiba.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with some retention and some lacing notes. Aroma of black chocolate notes with some woody whiskey and bourbon notes. Taste is also a mix of black chocolate notes with some woody whiskey and bourbon notes with some warming alcohol notes. Body is full with oily texture and good carbonation and warming alcohol notes are perceptible. Nice heavy barrel-aged stout.

Pours a small fizzy head with lower retention, good legs, jet black color
Nose big heavy roasted malt again, some char, anise and baking spices, coffee, baking chocolate, burnt marshmallow, vanilla barrel, touch of whiskey, a bit of spicy rye
Taste brings loads more dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malts, burnt charred malt and coffee, burnt marshmallow, a bit of spicy rye, smokey note, baker's chocolate, vanilla barrel and a touch of whiskey, more anise and baking spices, some alcohol warmth and spice, thick fudgey cocoa, sticky sweet finish, a bit more barrel notes late
Mouth is fuller bod, rich chewy like, fair warming tingly alcohol, lower carb
Overall not bad, not as much barrel as I expected

11.2 ounce wax capped bottle, bottled 171102021, best before 17112024. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that stayed around for a little bit. Small amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like dark fruit, whiskey, oak, earthiness, tobacco and some brown sugar. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some spicy rye, molasses, vanilla and caramel flavors. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's slick and a bit rich with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this one was pretty good, another quality brew from Põhjala that's definitely worth trying if you get the chance!

Syrupy brown to black pour with a thin mocha head. The nose is decidedly bourbon and rye. Mouthfeel is smooth, silky syrup. The flavor is abundant--certainly rye although never to excess, plus molasses, vanilla, dark fruit and dark sugar. Great winter sipping brew. Becoming quite a Pohjala fan!

From the 11.2 oz bottle in a snifter. This monster brew pours a dark
blackish brown with a modest head of khaki foam that settles to a thin ring with
subtle lacing. Nose of bourbon, spicy rye, oak, char, black strap molasses, dark
cocoa, and dark coffee. Flavors hit the mark with oak, vanilla, bourbon, spicy rye
notes, char, touch of soy, black strap molasses, brewers licorice, dark bakers cocoa,
and espresso dashed with cream and brulee. Mouth feel is full, slick, light carbonation,
smooth, coating, warming, and finishing with a bitter malt note.
Overall, another great one from a great little newer to me brewery!
Cheers

A - Dark brown borderline black pour with medium caramel colored lacing and low to no carbonation.
S - Brown sugar, molasses, Bourbon, oak, and a slight bit of vanilla and light oak.
T - Bourbon, oak, brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, and finishes on the sweeter side.
M - Light syrupy texture that finishes on the wetter side.
O - This is a really respectable beer that's worth checking out!

Imperial porter in bourbon barrels
APPEARANCE: Pours out black and yields a one finger, medium looking, light tan head with decent retention. Black body with no real carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a faint wisp and ring.
SMELL: Big, boozy nose of bourbon, oak, vanilla cream, milk chocolate, butterscotch and some brownie character. Some cookie dough. Bold, boozy and aromatic.
TASTE: Bourbon, oak, cookie dough, some brownies, and then plenty of butterscotch, vanilla cream and bourbon at the swallow. Plenty of booze. Bold finish of bourbon, oak, cookie dough, brownies, some butterscotch and vanilla cream linger on the palate. Some decent booze too. Flavorful.
PALATE: Medium-lighter body with medium carbonation. A little airy on the palate perhaps, goes down okay and finishes somewhat sticky. A bit of heat lingers.
OVERALL: Lots of good aroma and flavor, and a solid look as well, but the feel is lighter and airier than I’d like for the style. Recipe is great but the feel holds it back from being a real winner.

Purchased a bottle of this beer at my favorite beer shop in Dallas.
One of this brewery’s Cellar Series beers - aged in bourbon and rye whiskey barrels. Pours a rich dark brown color with thin brown head and good curtain lacing. Thesmell and taste is initially very rich dark chocolate. It is smokey and a bit spicy. WRm, comforting booziness is ever present. A hint of apricot and dark berries at the end. Very nice beer.
