From the 11.2 oz bottle in a snifter. This unique brew pours a rich
muddled dark brown with a decent head of khaki foam that settles to
a thick ring, subtle swirling film, and shows some decent legs with a swirl.
Nose of vinous cognac, figs, dark berry notes, raisin, dark brown sugars,
and astringent booze. Flavors hit the mark with dark fruit jam, figs, dates,
toffee, brown sugars, vinous cognac, subtle char, and hints of tobacco,
Mouth feel is medium, subtle carbonation, smooth, rich, warming, and finishing
subtly dry.

Overall, a stunner....somehow missed this one from Christmas in the
Doomsday beer closet......a perfect summer sipper!

Cheers

Black brown body, brown collar. Smells has big cognac soaking raisin, prune, barley, darker oak, with minor toffee and a touch of smoky earth. Taste starts the same with cognac barrel omnipresent but never getting to boozy, dark fruit, earth and barley are mixing in, but then the finish has a little metal sneak in, very distracting. The barrels are strong but not deep, yet not super boozy either, but the overall mouthfeel is smooth at least

Look: It pours dark brown with a tan head. Head retention is low.

Smell: The are strong toffee aromas with raisins and plums. There are alcohol notes with a touch of orange and cognac.

Taste: It has strong toffee flavors with a bit of molasses. It has raisin and plums notes. There are low levels of cognac and orange.

Feel: It has a full body close to the chewy side with strong, but pleasant alcohol warming.

Overall: It has a nice blend of malts with the cognac enhancing the flavors and aromas. The alochol is strong, but very pleasant.

The pour is Porter dark with a surprisingly long lasting mocha colored head. There is a little more oak than grape liquor in the nose but there is also some nice smoke in the background. The taste is pretty dry with that smokey oak coming across fairly prominently. There is a little fruit, somewhat jammy somewhat vinous, along with some chocolate and caramel in the background. This comes together well and I'm enjoying it more and more as I sip.

Cognac and barrel wood come up front hard, but then start to mellow after aeration. The base barleywine reminds me of later Mother Of All Storms tastings, dark and stout-like. Big ABV hides well, bringing some warmth into the sips. At $15/12oz it’s one I might not get more of. It’s enjoyable, but there might be better value for the dollars.
