Sweet, savory and teasing the tastebuds with the culinary delight of salted caramel, Pohjala has one foot in the brewery and one foot in the pastry shop.
Very dark brown and easily mistaken for stout, Moonlit Nights releases a frothy tan cap and a sultry scent of toast, toffee, dark fruit, cocoa and coffee. As it's decedent sweetness coats the palate, a fuller impression of blackstrap molasses, dark chocolate and deeply caramelized malts add a dessert succulence for early complexity. Date, plum, fig and hints of raisin bring about a sherry-like taste while the barrels bring out added caramel, nuttiness, vanilla and toast. Light in bitterness, the late taste is broad and coffee-like in a long, sweet and plush aftertaste.
Full bodied and ideal for after dinner digestive, the beer is a savory blend of barleywine, stout and Belgian dark ale with a mature and beautifully balanced character overall.
