Black in the glass with significant bubbles. Aroma of sour cherry, dried strawberry, and granola. These all survive to the palate though in diminishing quantities. More pronounced are liquorice, rye bread, allspice, vanilla, and an ever-present smokiness. Hops are very bitter with lots of florescence and vanilla. An element of fishiness develops in the malt, akin to some brown ales. Late on, this turns very red wine. Even at the relatively high strength, this tastes hot. I’m drinking this straight from the fridge rather than at the recommended 12-16C, and think this is probably a good call. The mouthfeel is treacly but supple enough, the anticipated carbonation is actually pretty light, and i suspect this would be sickly at a warmer temperature.

Bottled in brown bottle and purchased with a leisurely beer from Cafe Beermoth from their battleshop selection for the time of work what with the Easter Bank Holidays
Pours a very dark body with quickly dissipating tan head
Aroma is chock rum truffles
Flavour is cinnamon toast and molasses
