i dont know for sure that this is actually intended as a berliner, but its for sure kettle soured, and likely is wheat based, clearly low alcohol. without a category for generic american sour, i think this is the closest one, although perhaps a similar base beer as their salty water gose, either way its a crisp and clean acidic sour ale with a faint blackberry complexion, despite not taking on any color at all from the fruit. it just looks like a wheat beer in the glass, pale with a little cloudiness and an inch of white head. some slight berry perfume in the nose, sweetness, a floral aspect and then the lactic acidity with lemon vibes, pleasing a light, if not all the way natural on the blackberry side of things. there is a strange sweetness in the flavor, some of it grain derived, but also a suggestion of vanilla and honey that is weird to me in a sour like this, which has good acidity but isnt quite gripping. its dry, but not all the way through, and the sweetness thats there earlier on seems a little out of place. i liem the blackberry flavor though, like blackberry and rosewater or something, not that subtle and kind of cheap, but pretty good at the same time. the couple of sours we had in here were their best beers by a mile i thought...
