they call this one a dark wit, and its right on for that, but i feel more inclined to add it as a belgian dark, a wit is pale, and i dont want to create confusion, golden stouts have done a psychological number... this is nice beer through, seemingly obviously wheat based, toasted and a little roasty, with cocoa notes, and all the banana and clove and brown sugar and allspice character from the yeast that a regular pale wit should have, this is clever and different and good, not sure i can recall too many of these out there over the years. light coriander and licorice notes, some subtle generic citrus, chocolate, and even blueberry or something, its balanced but weird, complex but approachable, familiar but foreign, this kind of does it all for me. it should be more bubbly, a wit, of any color, needs to pop, even effervesce, and this is well short of that, but the body isnt real big and this is still pretty drinkable. maybe a bit of starchiness to it, the yeast lightens it, and its never bitter on the dark malt side, despite the color and the depth. a neat style fusion id like to see more of, this could be better refined overall, but its cool beer, a nice compliment to their pizza and one of the more unique beers they had on tap when i was in.
