In a tulip.
A: A dark tan color, like that of an aged piece of untreated rawhide. Just under 1cm of head.
S: Definitely heavy on the hops, with some carmel/malty notes, but by no means overwhelming. A fresh smell, with just a touch of citrus. Maybe it was my nose this day, but the scent became muted quickly after a few minutes.
T: The astringency of grapefruit, and a touch of something toasty. Very clean and not masked by off flavors. I might even claim there would a touch of plum flavors in there... or something along those lines. Very nice.
M: It coats the front of the tongue and that spreads back along your pallet. There is a rounded off crispness to it.
O: I like it, and as a hazy IPA is reminds me vaguely of the hop heavy overpowering bitterness in traditional IPAs. There is some bitterness, but not overwhelming at all. Very tasty with a large round mouthfeel. You'll enjoy it, but you won't be able to drink six in a row without blowing out your sense of taste. Definitely worthy of a special occasion or part of a sampling. With every taste a new element pops out at me... and I like that complexity.

Draft at the brewery. Tulip.
A: pours a hazy, turbid dark orange with 1 finger just off-white head and a little visible carb at the edges. No lacingbto speak of, but fair retention.
S: holy hops Batman! A juicy, citrusy delight! Albeit a touch muted from what I would have expected from all of the NE IPA hype, but this smells loaded with citrus, grapefruit, and a hint of vague tropical zing. The big thing for me is white grapefruit peel.
T: taste follows the nose wonderfully; layers of grapefruit juice, grapefruit peel, something floral, and a vague tropicality.
M: milky. Midweight and moderately carbonated. Slick, but not oily. Totally unique texture. Never had another beer like this except possibly for all of the unfiltered Barley's and Smokehouse beers I'm always criticizing for having a similar texture. What goes around...
O: So I have finally had a NEIPA. Yes, I love it. Soft, hoppy, citrusy, missing the bitterness one would associate with a traditional IPA. I'd put this around 25 IBUs, but it's hoppy as all get out. Hope they brew it again soon!
