Pours an orange/amber color with a one finger head and minimal lacing.

The smell is very sweet and very hoppy with nice caramel smells.

The taste is also very hoppy and very sweet with burnt toffee. There is a lingering bitter finish.

The mouthfeel is amazing. It coats the whole mouth and is very smooth.

Overall this is really good beer. It's not really complex and the bitterness overpowers a bit, but it's still really good.

Poured into snifter. Ruby copper color, nice head with ring retention.

Creamy nose of pineapple punch and candy, tropical fruits. Taste follows, grassed out with hops and some caramel sugarness.

A coated mouth feel, syrupy in its richness, some dry from hops.

A great sipper. Very intricate flavor, lots of things working well together here. Exceptional alcohol.

Got in a BIF from jdell15. 12 ounce can into snifter, 2017 vintage. Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky cream colored head with awesome retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, golden raisin, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops, fruity yeast, and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, golden raisin, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, golden raisin, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruity yeast, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance. Touch of lingering hop astringency, but not overwhelming. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, sticky/resinous/rind, and slightly slick/syrupy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden; a mildly increasing warmth, and a touch of booze lingering after the finish. Overall this is an awesome American barleywine! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruity yeast, and dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for thebig ABV; despite the increasingly bitter/drying finish. Very aggressive but not overdone on hops/bitterness. A very classic tasting style example. Heavy C hops character, with great balance of estery yeasts and malt sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Pours from the bottle a deep amber red. Not much head, rather a tight ring of tiny bubbles. Big aroma of buttery toffee and candied dark fruits. Loads of sweet toffee on the tongue. The booze is there, but it blends well. Only a little bitterness. Creamy thick mouth. Butter keeps coming to mind. Very sweet, but very good.
