Pours a lovely, plum-colored hue with a slight haze to the clarity and a quarter inch, cream-colored head that quickly dissipates towards the edges leaving a soapy slick. Great nose - dark fruits with slight medicinal notes (think cherry Sucrets). Taste follows nose with a pleasant bready quality that comes out at the back. Mouthfeel is light in body, perhaps a touch thin, with an even carbonation and kiss of acidity. All I can say is this is a great doppelbock - spot on for the style.

Poured into a pilsener glass, the appearance was a muddy semi-dark amber color with a two finger white to off-white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Messy speckled lace. The aroma had a nice blend of some dark bready/dough malts strolling into some caramel/toffee malts. Subtle dark fruits, some apples and then the cardamom for a slight different sort of spicy effect. The flavor leaned to the sweet side initially with those doughy/bready malts clinging to the dark fruits and apples. Once again, cardamom comes in nicely to balance. Doughy to dark fruity aftertaste with a quick dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation. Nice strength from the ABV. Overall, doppelbock qualities seem to come out nicely and a nice twist of subtly bringing in the cardamom to make it a little different without distraction.
